2011 Strike Continues
Thursday, 17 February 2011 11:11

As negotiations continue between the industries bargaining council and the unions, ITT stays committed to doing its best to deliver. We are however encountering some serious challenges, and threats and intimidation are plentiful. The company had its first vehicle stoned yesterday (Wednesday the 16th- day 4 of the strike) in East London. A minor injury was reported from a stone which was hurled through the open passenger window. Various other couriers and transport companies have experienced the same.

Please expect delays in the following areas:

·         PORT ELIZABETH

o   Deal Party

o   Struandale

o   Markman Township

o   Uitenhage

·         EAST LONDON (probably the worst affected in our delivery region)

o   ELS Central

o   North End

o   Greenfields

o    All Townships

o   Wilsonia

o   Fort Jackson

o   King Williamstown

o   Butterworth / Umtata Route

o   Cofinvaba / Ncgobo Route

o   East Coast Resorts

o   Berlin

o   Bisho

·         CAPE TOWN

o   Airport Industria

o   Epping

o   Montigue Gardens

·         QUEENSTOWN

o   Barkly East / Maclear Route

o   Aliwal North Route

o   Town delays and fuel shortages

On a more positive note, areas like Grahamstown, George, Graaff Reinet and most outlying areas are not affected. There is however a delay in the overnight vehicles reaching these destinations.

Thank you for all your continued support and understanding.

Transport Industry Strike

Impending Strike in transport industry

ITT has received confirmation from the RFEA (Road Freight Employers Association), of the intention of workers taking strike action due to a deadlock in salary negotiations. The planned strike is set to commence on 13 February 2011. From past experience staff are subject to huge threats and intimidation, to the extent that ITT lost a vehicle in an arson attack in 2009 while attempting deliveries.

Whilst ITT will be making all efforts to reduce the impact of the strike, we cannot jeopardize the safety of our staff and assets. ITT therefore appeals to its customers to be patient and understanding of the situation. We are prepared to make any improvisations and alternative arrangements as we battle through this indefinite period.

The RFEA have offered an increase of 15% split over a 2 year period, however the Trade Unions are demanding 20% over 2 years. We trust that a speedy agreement will be reached in the bargaining unit of our industry.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

SATAWU Strike update
Wednesday, 08 April 2009 12:14

The strike situation seems to be getting worse. There have been unconfirmed reports of violence breaking out at various demonstration points in the Metro. We expect that threats and intimidation may restrict ITT’s efforts to distribute freight overnight.

We are however still sticking to our contingency plan and still encourage customers to lodge their freight at our various branches. Every effort will be made to resume services as normal.

SATAWU Strike
Wednesday, 08 April 2009 09:01

Wage negotiations between the Road Freight Employers Association (RFEA) and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) ended without agreement yesterday. Negotiations are set to continue today at 9am.

As a result ITT will be running on a skeleton staff again today. We managed to get the majority of our freight delivered and collected yesterday with the cooperation of our customers. We also managed to send freight to all major centers, apart from Cape Town last night. We aim to achieve the same today, however we regret that many regional destinations will not be serviced.

All the ITT branches and other operational hubs are open and operational during the course of the strike. We ask that customers assist us by collecting their bulk consignments from the respective branches, and also lodge their parcels this afternoon. We thank you for your cooperation in this regard as it is out of our control.
